Special Note
I could have gone
on and on in this chapter for the cases and instances of
denial are without end. Please understand it is just one
chapter from my upcoming book 'Toxicity Syndrome' though
perhaps what is missing on the cover is my coverage of
radiation exposure.
There is more we
can do to protect ourselves from radiation than most
people know and this is instantly growing in importance
as Russia burns stirring up the intense radioactivity
present in their soil and vegetation after several major
nuclear disasters since 1957.
This is finally
hitting the mainstream press but as usual it is hard to
trust their report exactly because of what this chapter
is all about. |
Denial is the name of the toxicity game
that industry has played for well over a hundred years.
From the chemical industry, then to
the
petrochemical one, on into
the pharmaceutical universe and then
the
atomic one, those who make money from toxic substances deny that
there are any problems with them in terms of health.
Examples of
these denials could fill many books.
“We deal with hydrofluoric acid,”
said Darrell Lillie, president of
United Steelworkers Local
7-669, which represents the union workers. “We make fluorine.
This is bad stuff. The least we feel like we could have is good
medical benefits when we retire.”
Honeywell rejects the notion that its
facility makes workers more susceptible to cancer and maintains that
its labor proposal would raise the average overall salary for
employees.
The company says that is fair given that
the plant, which converts milled uranium into uranium hexafluoride
for nuclear reactors, is projected to lose $20 million this year.
From all over the world we have ghastly reports:
The fertile state of
Punjab in India
battles grave chemical toxicity. Gidderbaha, is known for high
prevalence of cancer cases.
Two water samples in Doda found the
nitrate levels at 94.3 mg/l and 72.8 mg/l, much above the WHO safety
limit of 50 mg/l. In Muktsar a state health department survey
revealed that 1,074 people died of cancer between 2001 and November
2009 and 668 others are on their deathbed.
In July of 2010 Germany’s Microtrace
Mineral Lab had revealed high levels of uranium in hair samples of
mentally retarded children in Malwa region.
“The hair results are surprising. We
expected an arsenic exposure. Instead, over 80% of adult and
children, many of which are suffering from cerebral palsy and
mental retardation, showed pathological levels for uranium,”
said Dr. Carin Smit, a South African toxicologist who had sent
the samples to the German laboratory in March 2009.
With no apparent source of uranium in
Punjab, Carin added,
“We were not testing for radioactive
element but heavy metal toxicity, which results in ill-health
and premature death.”
This is really a meaningless symbol for
it is routinely ignored by government, industry and professionals
alike.
The skull and crossbones arrive in every
dental office and mark the mercury that dentists meld into dental
amalgam. For 150 years dentists have thrown caution to the wind and
put a highly toxic heavy metal into hundreds of millions of mouths,
pronouncing them safe. To this very day the FDA defends the practice
though some saner countries like Sweden, Denmark and Norway have
moved to ban or partially ban the practice.
Thimerosal, a deadly chemical compound, which is 50% ethyl-mercury,
is actually injected into children and newborn babies and again we
find doctors, nurses, and governments in total denial that this
could in anyway be a bad idea.
The denial of this practice as well as
all denial of the dangers of chemical and radioactive substances
represents a madness that is not only destroying our health but the
ecology of the planet and the very structure and nature of our
civilization.
This uranium that is showing up
increasingly in people’s hair samples around the world - could it
possibly be from the use of large tonnages of depleted uranium
weapons used by the American and British militaries in Iraq and
Afghanistan? So great is the denial that these militaries do not
even warn their own service personnel about the dangers.
Reducing the amount of toxins we are faced with every day is one of
the most important things we can do for our health. A buildup of
toxins in our body can cause many health concerns as cacogenic
effects take place, slowly malfunctioning and killing the cells that
make up every aspect of our body.
Doctors and health officials do not see
things this way for the only way they know how to practice medicine
is to increase toxic exposures with pharmaceutical medicines along
with tests and treatments that use radiation. Thus they are part of
the problem, not the solution to the disaster that is happening all
over the globe.
It’s not always clear what chemicals we are breathing in or coming
into contact with but there are many including: air pollution,
fluoride and chlorine in drinking water, preservatives and additives
in foods, ink fumes when reading a book, breathing/ touching
dishwashing powder/washing machine powder, touching sticky tape or
getting glue on the surface of the skin - all these damage our
bodies in one way or another.
There are so many sources and so many
thousands of chemicals that industry and government both can hide
behind this making it hard to claim which particular chemical is
threatening public health. So they literally get away with murder
and count their money at the bank.
Not everyone will react to any one of these chemicals when being
faced with them, but the consistent exposure of chemicals all add up
to the amount of damage caused to our cells. Our bodies need to
eliminate toxins to stay healthy; if the body is overloaded with
internal chemicals or is not healthy enough to function properly to
detoxify the chemicals within the body, they will eventually build
up and cause the onset of disease and ill health.
This is another issue that complicates the issue of Toxicity
Syndrome.
Vaccines, for instance, only kill the “rare” few and not
every child gets autism and other neurological diseases.
But these diseases are growing in leaps
and bounds these past 20 years and now almost 25% of children are
suffering one way or another, and still they continue. Our modern
civilization is not protecting the children from the monsters of
industry and it will forever be damned for it. Perhaps we have to be
put back into the Stone Age just to stop the massive poisoning of
our planet and all the people on it.
In the next chapter we will examine Corexit, the chemical dispersant
used by British Petroleum to neutralize the oil spilled heavily into
the Gulf.
This is the official position of the
American government:
Dispersants used to break up crude
leaking from a ruptured Gulf of Mexico oil well are not likely
to accumulate in seafood and affect humans, the U.S. Food and
Drug Administration said.
In a letter released at the
beginning of August addressing concerns raised by a U.S.
lawmaker, the regulatory body said it was highly unlikely that
the chemicals used to break up spilled crude into small
particles would enter the food chain.
“The FDA has determined that
the
chemical dispersant currently used to combat the Deepwater
Horizon… have a low potential for bioconcentration in
seafood species,” the agency said.
“Although seafood is exposed to
the dispersant, the inherent properties of the dispersants
minimize the possibility of their being present in food,”
the letter continued.
“There is no information at this
time to indicate that they pose a public health threat from
exposure through the consumption of seafood.”
But only a few days later we read that
crab larvae are being discovered to be absorbing the Corexit and
this discovery is an ominous sign that crude had already infiltrated
the
Gulf’s vast food web - and could affect it for years to come.
“It would suggest the oil has
reached a position where it can start moving up the food chain
instead of just hanging in the water,” said Bob Thomas, a
biologist at Loyola University in New Orleans. “Something likely
will eat those oiled larvae… and then that animal will be eaten
by something bigger and so on.”
Tiny creatures might take in such low
amounts of oil that they could survive, Thomas said. But those at
the top of the chain, such as dolphins and tuna, could get fatal “megadoses.”
This denial reaches into every corner of our lives with all concerns
of the dangers to us and our children ignored. Just about everyone
denies the dangers of cell phones and cell mast towers and no one on
earth knows what the risks are for the children who will be exposed
for their entire but possibly shortened lifetimes because of it.
Even though the government and the media
ignore or deny
the dangers of EMF emissions, I personally keep track
at all times how close my family is to the nearest cell tower. I do
not own a cell phone though when traveling there are times when I
will borrow one to use.
Read an interesting article about
living
without one.
A study, this one from Israel’s Tel Aviv
University, examined 622 people living near a cell phone transmitter
station for 3-7 years who were patients in one clinic in Netanya and
compared them against 1222 control patients from a nearby clinic.
Participants were very closely matched
in environment, workplace and occupational characteristics. The
people in the first group live within a half circle of 350m (1148
feet) radius from the transmitter, which came into service in July
1996. The results were startling.
Out of the 622 exposed patients, eight
cases of different kinds of cancer were diagnosed in a period of
just one year (July 1997 to June 1998):
-
three cases of breast cancer
-
one of ovarian cancer
-
lung cancer
-
Hodgkin’s disease (cancer of the
lymphatic system)
-
osteoid osteoma (bone tumor)
-
kidney cancer
The relative risk of cancer was 4.15 for
those living near the cell phone transmitter compared with the
entire population of Israel.
Women were more susceptible. As seven
out of eight cancer cases were women, the relative cancer rates for
females were 10.5 for those living near the transmitter station and
0.6 for the controls relative for the whole town of Netanya.
One year after the close of the study,
eight new cases of cancer were diagnosed in the microwave exposed
area and two in the control area.

Using Wi-Fi
Has Cost Me My Life
“After a year in the job, I began to
get headaches on the side of my head where I’d use the mobile,
along with a feeling of pressure inside my ears when I was on
the phone. At first the problem would last for minutes, then
hours, then days. And then I started developing symptoms when I
used cordless landlines, too.
I developed a red rash on my cheeks
and nose, my face seemed hot and prickly, my head felt foggy and
I was no longer able to focus. I couldn’t form sentences and my
jaw would feel locked, as if I was talking through sand. The
flashlights we used in the studio began to have the same effect
and then the digital cameras.
When I couldn’t even use a laptop
any more - essential for storing and transmitting photography -
because my fingers used to burn when I touched the keypad, I had
to resign. I lost everything I’d trained for.
I’ve had to move gradually farther
and farther out of London and into the countryside the more
masts and wi-fi networks have increased - if my neighbor goes
wireless, I have to find somewhere else to live.”
As a minimum protect yourself from a
great part of the radiation exposure of your cell phone with a
hands
free extension headset.
This entire book is about different
forms of toxicity and what to do about it. You will find information
that will horrify you and it should.
One of the most current bits of
news in this regard is the following:
Girls are entering puberty at
younger ages with
a new study suggesting that environmental
chemicals are a main factor. The new research is detailed in the
journal Pediatrics, August issue.
The results showed that 10.4% of
white non-Hispanic girls had begun puberty by age 7, compared
with 23.4% of black girls and 14.9% of Hispanic girls. Among
8-year-olds, puberty had begun in 18.3% of white non-Hispanic
girls, 42.9% of black girls and 30.9% of Hispanic girls.
And when it comes to the oil in the Gulf
of Mexico, which this book is largely about, we have denial,
conspiracy and complicity on the part of the government. The
pictures below were all taken on July 28, 2010, just off the Gulf
coast of Grand Bayou near Barataria Bay.
They were taken shortly after cleanup
authorities announced major surface oil had been cleaned up and it
was safe to eat the seafood.
What should everyone be worried about in
the region?
In a word: dispersants, the magical chemical concoction
that BP has been spraying madly everywhere for the past three
months.
According to BP cleanup workers and
local residents, they’re still spraying, even spraying close to
shore at night.
“They’re burying it,”
Guidry says.
“That amount of oil doesn’t just disappear overnight. It’s got
to be somewhere. If they haven’t captured it on the surface or
on the shorelines, then it’s got to be on the bottom. And that’s
the last place you want it to be if you’re a shrimp boat
fisherman.”
