• Note: Manetho credits Pepi I with a much longer rule of 53 years. The highest known date from Pepi's reign is the 25th counting. Assuming this counting was a two-year event, Pepi I at least ruled for 50 years. It is therefore assumed that the 20 years credited to him in the Turin Kinglist is based on an error. It is possible that Pepi's nomen Merire may have caused him to be confused with his successor, Merenre I.

• Note: Reconstruction by Gardiner, who was quite convinced that the number 40 was missing in the lacuna. Recently, however, Merenre is credited with a much shorter reign, of 14 or even 5 years. It is possble that the few years that the Turin Kinglist credits to Pepi I is due to a confusion between Pepi and Merenre, and that some of the years of Pepi have been erroneously credited to Merenre.

The following is a hieroglyphic transcription and translation into English of the Turin Kinglist, column IV, line 1 to column IV, line 17. This section corresponds to Dynasties 6 and 7/8. It contains two summations: one for this section proper and one for this section combined with the previous one. It is odd that the composer of the Kinglist, or its source, felt the need to distinguish between the kings up to the 5th Dynasty and those of the 6th to 8th Dynasty, only to combine them in an additional summation seperately.
