Hum Distribution and the High Voltage Grid

The image far left shows the distribution of UK Hum sufferers.

The survey was conducted some years ago by a national Sunday newspaper and the results were confirmed some years later by a second survey prepared by Bob Lewis, the then secretary of the Low Frequency Noise Sufferers Association.

It was noted that the Hum distribution did NOT follow the population density distribution as would be expected, but formed clusters at places where the Nation Grid transmission lines were concentrated.

The first power stations in the UK were built in 1882.

In the 1930's a national transmission grid was developed and this was reconstructed in the 1950's and the 1960's
