The 20th century has seen the decline of traditional Christian beliefs and the rise of the seemingly all-inclusive, multi-dimensional belief system known loosely as "New Age" spirituality. Helena Blavatsky and Alice Bailey were two of the most well known organizers of this movement in the early part of this century (and they will be referred to throughout this article). Blavatsky founded the Theosophical Society and Bailey, later a president of the TS, founded the organization known as the Lucis Trust, which has counted as members men of great influence such as David Rockefeller, Henry Kissinger, Paul Volker and George Schultz (1).

Blavatsky and Bailey were avid trance-channelers who claimed to receive messages from spirit entities (2) and both recorded many predictions that were made to them regarding the inevitable appearance of "The Lord Maitreya" or "The Christ" on the earth immediately prior to earth's initiation into the utopian "New Age."(3) Because these women engaged in the biblically-forbidden practice of spiritism and because the messages they received were deeply anti-Christian, mocking and ridiculing traditional Christianity, bible-believing Christians have understood that the appearance of the man whom Bailey and Blavatsky predicted was not a reference to the second coming of Jesus Christ, but was in fact a prediction of the future Antichrist.

A man by the name of Benjamin Creme, a self-described disciple of both Blavatsky and Bailey, appears to have taken over where they left off. Through his early studies of their works he became convinced in the reality of the "Ascended Masters," (the supposed inter-dimensional beings who direct humanity's evolution), and claims that in 1959 he was first contacted by them. According to Creme's biography...

"He was told, among other things, that Maitreya, the World Teacher -- the Master of all the Masters -- would return in about 20 years and that he (Creme) would have a role to play in the event if he chose to accept it."

Creme claims that he has been in constant telepathic contact with "Maitreya the Christ" since the early '70s and that Maitreya finally entered civilized society privately in 1977 when he materialized in human form and took up residence in a suburb of London.(4) Since then Creme has traveled the world, giving lectures and appearing on talk shows, to prepare the world for the public emergence of Maitreya.(5) He also claims that a major American television network has agreed to interview Maitreya at a time of Maitreya's choosing.(6)

One major aspect of Creme's mission was the formation of Share International Foundation (SI) and the publication of it's monthly self-titled magazine. Each issue contains a brief synopsis of the emergence of Maitreya on the first two pages and then a brief message that has been trance-channeled through Benjamin Creme from an Ascended Master known simply as "The Master" on page three. The spiritual thrust of SI is clearly obvious in each issue that is published. Despite this fact, or perhaps because of it, SI has a long list of prominent, well respected international diplomats, religious leaders and political figures who have had articles published in this magazine.

They include articles written by former UN leader Boutros Boutros-Ghali; present leader Kofi Annan; former President of Ireland Mary Robinson; Gro Harlem Brundtland who is director-general of the World Health Organization and former Prime Minister of Norway; the Dalai Lama; and recently even Britain's Crown Prince Charles.(7) Even though the average man on the street would most likely dissolve into hysterical laughter upon being presented with the beliefs of Creme and Share International, it is easily shown that this magazine is well-respected and taken seriously by many influential members of the Global Elite. In fact, Share International Foundation is accredited as an official non-governmental organization (NGO) by the United Nations,(8) and the magazine, as stated on the inside cover of each issue, is published by SI "...in association with the Department of Public Information at the United Nations."

Creme and Share International are both intimately connected with a number of New Age groups including the Freemasons (Creme often lectures in Masonic halls), the Tara Canter of Hollywood, CA, the Theosophical Society, the Lucis Trust (which maintains the official UN "meditation room"), and World Goodwill, an organization created by the Lucis Trust and also recognized by the UN as an official NGO. World Goodwill also actively promotes the appearance of "Maitreya the World Teacher" in their literature and on their website. (9)

Maitreya claims to be "The Christ" returned, yet there are many aspects of his character and many of his predictions (as given by Creme) which fall in line with the bible's predictions of the coming Antichrist and the events that will surround the end of the age. For instance, Maitreya predicts many natural disasters and a period of violence and destruction prior to earth's entry into the New Age (10);  he warns that the worldwide capitalist financial system will be overturned (11); he predicts that a new world religion will be established under his guidance and that he will be aided by a future leader of the Roman Catholic Church (12). Regarding the current problems between Israel and the Palestinians Creme has stated that when Maitreya appears he will solve them, saying,

"I believe Maitreya alone has the spiritual authority to point to the solution and achieve its implementation."

Most Christians understand that the final seven year period of earth's rebellious history begins with a covenant that will involve the Antichrist and the nation of Israel. (13) In addition to these facts Creme says that Maitreya may be rejected by intolerant "fundamentalists" (Christians and Jews), and "The Master," an unnamed being who also speaks through Creme, warns of people who will reject Maitreya based on "scriptural warnings which they all too readily misinterpret."  (14) (This researcher is doing his best to interpret them correctly.)

2. This is an established fact and can be verified through the works of Blavatsky and Bailey themselves or through the many biographies of their lives, including Charles J. Ryan's H.P.Blavatsky and the Theosophical Movement, and Bailey's own Unfinished Autobiography. Two of Blavatsky's guiding spirits referred to themselves as Koot Hoomi and Morya, while Bailey's chief spirit referred to himself as Djwhal Khul, otherwise known as The Tibetan. 3. Blavatsky referred to this New Age leader as the Lord Maitreya (see http://www.shareintl.org/archives/Krishnamurti/k_bs-pathlessjourney.htm), while Bailey confirmed that this Maitreya was in fact "The Christ," the messianic figure expected by all religions. 7. Share International articles:

These are only a few of the many prominent politicians, diplomats, activists and theologians who have been published in SI.

Every issue of SI contains this disclaimer on the inside front cover,

"Contributors to this publication and those who have been interviewed or quoted do not necessarily endorse Benjamin Creme's statements about the presence of Maitreya the World Teacher, or the associated esoteric ideas."

Hopefully the above members of the global elite do not believe Creme's message, but this would be unlikely given that the spiritual aspect of SI is so prominent in each issue. By allowing their articles to be published they must realize that they are endorsing the "esoteric ideas" involved, even though their articles focus on social issues. Robinson is one of the more prolific authors to be published in SI and she also happens to be the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights since 9/12/97.

Maitreya's predictions

10. A period of violence and destruction for the earth.

"This 'end of an age' inevitably produces a certain number of natural disasters such as floods and earthquakes, and we are seeing a dramatic climax in the number of disasters taking place around the world... Maitreya says: 'The last time I came, as Jesus, it was written in the Bible that when I appeared again the very elements of nature would be disturbed.' " "...After the disasters have peaked there will come a period of calm -the violence and destruction will come to an end. As people gain awareness, their guilt will recede..."

Maitreya's Mission, Volume Two, Benjamin Creme, Share International Foundation, 1993, pp186-187

The bible predicts many catastrophes in the book of Revelation, beginning with the polar shift of the sixth seal (http://www.redmoonrising.com/list.htm, Section II), and including a meteor impact into the ocean (8:8), major famines and plagues (6:8), intense heat from the sun (16:8), and many others.

11.Maitreya (through Creme) predicts the collapse of the current financial system.

"When the US's "oasis of prosperity" begins to dry up, as it must in the current global financial crisis, stock markets in the West will plunge. This collapse will provide an opportunity for governments to re-evaluate their economic priorities, says futurist Benjamin Creme. The nations of the world will meet together to discuss how to cope with the future in an orderly fashion."

The bible is clear that the final capitalist financial system is led by end-times Babylon which is a nation whose identity is evaluated here- http://www.redmoonrising.com/MysteryBabylon.htm It will be replaced by a socialist world government that will includes a single religion and one mandatory financial system to be led by the Antichrist and supported by the False Prophet (Rev. 13).

13. Maitreya will be instrumental in solving the problems within Israel

"...politically, the next problem [for Maitreya] is to solve the situation in the Middle East, solve the Arab-Israeli problem." from The Reappearance of the Christ..., p 187
"There can't be true peace in the world until 'the Middle East' question is settled. . . . So deep are the feelings aroused in both sides, so entrenched are the positions which each adopt, that I believe Maitreya alone has the spiritual authority to point to the solution and achieve its implementation."

Daniel's prophecy of the Seventy Weeks includes the prediction of a final seven year period. Please read and understand this all-important prophecy here- http://www.redmoonrising.com/daniel.htm It is this researcher's belief that the Antichrist will indeed influence the establishment of the final seven year period but that it will be his lackey, the False Prophet, who actually fulfills Daniel 9:27 and begins the final seven year period as explained here- http://www.redmoonrising.com/biblicalFP.htm

14. Bible-believers will reject Maitreya.

"There are many fundamentalists - Christian and others - who see my information as a travesty of the truth, and who will reject Maitreya in the first place, but not for ever. It may be that Christians will accept the Master Jesus before they accept Maitreya, but it could well be that they will not even accept the Master Jesus. The name is right, but He does not have holes in His hands and feet any more."

"For a time, it may well be that very orthodox Christians - in particular Fundamentalists - will reject both Maitreya and the Master Jesus, now in Rome. He has not come 'on a cloud at the end of the world' as they expect, nor does He have holes in His hands and feet. But gradually, many Christians will find it easier to accept the Master
Jesus as the returned Christ (at least the name is the same) rather than Maitreya, and the Master Jesus is in charge of the Christian Church worldwide. Eventually, however, I believe that most people, Christian and otherwise, will accept that Maitreya is indeed the Christ, Messiah, Krishna - World Teacher for all."
Above quotes from http://www.shareintl.org/archives/M's_emergence/faq_Maitreya's-emergence.htm

"A great polarisation will take place in humanity, between those who are ready to go forward with the Christ, into the future, on the only rational basis of sharing and co-operation for the good of all, creating right relationships; and those who are holding on to the old separatist ways, who are ready (though they wouldn’t see it in these terms, it would be the inevitable result) to plunge the world into chaos, and war..."
From http://www.shareintl.org/archives/AgelessWisdom/faq_trad-ageless.htm

The warning from "The Master" (please read the full text at http://www.shareintl.org/archives/M's_emergence/mem_mas-reception.htm)

"Maitreya knows that when He steps forward into the world arena a mixed reception will be forthcoming from humanity. There are many who look forward to that moment with joyful expectation, who will see it as the beginning of the New Time which awaits the sons of men. There are others, however, understanding little of the meaning and process of His advent, who will look askance and doubt His credentials, fearfully aware of scriptural warnings which they all too readily misinterpret.

Others, too, will simply watch from the sidelines, awaiting a lead from those they hold in some esteem. Thus will humanity range themselves on one side or the other: those who welcome the Teacher with open arms, eager to follow His precepts and advice; and those who see Him as the embodiment of evil and all that they distrust.

Thus will the Sword of Cleavage do its work, revealing those who stand for freedom and justice, for practical goodwill and love; revealing also those whose suspicion and fear, prejudice and hate prevent their recognition of the truth of Maitreya’s message of compassion and love. Thus will it be, and thus will men be tested as guardians of their future." (Don't worry, the Master says that the "Sword of Cleavage" is actually Love. Maitreya would never order people's heads cut off for not submitting to him as predicted in Rev. 20:4.)

Important Note

It must be understood that it is very unlikely that the world will ever see the appearance of a figure who will be publicly known as Maitreya. Certainly this sounds strange after examining the evidence that has been set forth, but this statement is not simply this researcher's personal opinion, rather it comes from Benjamin Creme himself. Before elaborating we should first examine the historical source of the "Maitreya" tradition.

Maitreya is a name that comes from Buddhism, and it is a Buddhist prophecy that a figure by this name would appear on earth as the next Buddha. The prophecies of Maitreya first appeared in the third century AD in India and they actually predicted that he would appear as a bodhisattva in 30,000 years or so when Buddhism was in a terrible state of decline. Of course it has not been 30,000 years since the prophecies were given and Buddhism is hardly in a state of decline, yet Creme is able to dance around these problems and continues to promote Maitreya as the genuine fulfillment of the Buddhist prophecies.

For more on the traditional Maitreya please go here- http://sangha.net/messengers/maitreya.htm

This enigmatic spirit being which Benjamin Creme claims to be in constant contact with, claims to not only be the fulfillment of Buddhist prophecy, but also of Muslim, Hindu, Jewish and Christian prophecy. Because Maitreya is a uniquely Buddhist name, and in an effort to appear unbiased towards any specific religious tradition, Creme has claimed that when his mentor does appear on the public scene as the World Teacher he will be known by a totally different and unique name that is not associated with any one religion.

This important point is given at this Share International web page:   http://www.shareintl.org/background/FAQ/faq_main.htm#name

So is Maitreya the Antichrist?

Before giving a yes or no answer we must realize that, from what Creme says, perhaps this is not exactly the question that we need to be asking. A more appropriate question to ask would be:

"Is Benjamin Creme and Share International, along with other New Age groups and various prominent world personalities, working to prepare the way for the real Antichrist, whatever his name will be?"

The answer to this question, as evidenced by the research of this website and from the sources given, is a resounding YES! These groups and these various influential world power-brokers are working to set the stage for the coming Antichrist. He will not appear on the scene without friends and without a supporting infrastructure. In fact Revelation 17 indicates that the Antichrist will be supported by the ten most powerful men on the planet! They are described as ten kings, ten men who "...have one purpose and will give their power and authority to the beast."

And what of the role played by Benjamin Creme? Why would the Antichrist need someone to set up organizations, take out newspaper adds, appear on talk shows and travel the world giving lectures on his behalf? The answer may appear when one compares the ministry of Jesus Christ with the career of the Antichrist. They are strangely similar in a number of ways:

- Both have "ministries" that last three and a half years, Jesus from age thirty to age thirty-three and a half, while the Antichrist is given power and authority over the earth for forty-two months (Rev. 13:5-8).
-Both operate within a trinity, Jesus being the Son, alongside God the Father, and the Holy Spirit, while the Antichrist operates alongside the Dragon who is Satan, and the False Prophet, a counterfeit who works to bring mankind to worship the Antichrist (Rev. 13:11-18).
-Both are killed and resurrected, with the Antichrist suffering a fatal wound and then being miraculously healed with the whole world looking on in astonishment (Rev. 13:3).
-Both are born directly of their spiritual fathers. Jesus from God himself through the virgin Mary, and the Antichrist from Satan himself.

And by examining the role of Benjamin Creme the similarities continue: Jesus was preceded by a man who was called by God to publicly and loudly prepare the way for Him. This was John the Baptist. The Tara Center has produced a documentary and promotional video called "Breaking the Biggest Story in History" that focuses on Maitreya and Benjamin Creme which opens with these words,

"For over twenty years, a man whom some call 'a modern day John the Baptist' has been travelling the globe, telling audiences that the Second Coming of Christ will not be a celestial spectacle in a distant future, but it is instead a real event, unfolding since 1977 behind the scenes of everyday life, and signifying the reappearance of a great spiritual teacher for all people..."

It is the firm belief of this Christian researcher that Benjamin Creme is indeed fulfilling the role of a counterfeit 'John the Baptist' by publicly announcing the message of the imminent appearance of the Antichrist. It would be terribly irresponsible to simply dismiss him as a quack or a loon, and everyone, Christian or not, should examine his predictions and his ideas and should pay serious attention to the many supporters who continue to flock to his side. If Creme is indeed laying the groundwork for the Antichrist that was predicted by Jesus and God's prophets, then we can expect this trend to continue and to intensify, and for more and more people to publicly support Creme and his message.

For an article that gives a very personal and credible account of Maitreya and the Ascended Masters please take the time to read this one by Creme disciple Wayne S. Peterson. Unfortunately Peterson has completely accepted the deception- http://www.shareintl.org/archives/AgelessWisdom/aw_wpexperiencing.htm

A recent interview with Peterson can be heard on the Coast-to-Coast-AM audio archives (06-24-00). The intro to the show reads,

"Wayne Peterson has come forward to speak about his extraordinary experiences with influential world figures. He asserts that many of them believe, as he does, that a group of highly evolved spiritual teachers are about to make their presence known on a worldwide scale. Mr. Peterson explains how these teachers, lead by one referred to as the World Teacher, will show us how we can solve our most difficult problems and build a new civilization."

Mr. Peterson mentions several world leaders who he claims are disciples of Maitreya.
