Dana Rohrabacher
A staunch supporter of the Afghan freedom
fighters since his days as a White House speech writer for
President Reagan, Congressman Rohrabacher remains
committed to bringing democracy and peace to Afghanistan.
Rohrabacher has traveled inside Afghanistan with Afghan
freedom fighters during the war with Soviet-backed forces. As
a Member of the Subcommittee on Asia and the Pacific House
Committee on International Relations, he has played a
leadership role in organizing Congressional hearings and fact
finding missions regarding Afghanistan. |

Congressman Chris Smith serves as a
Chairman of the House Committee on International Operations
and Human Rights of the Committee of International Relations.
He has long been a voice of hope for the oppressed peoples of
Afghanistan and Eastern Europe. An outspoken advocate and
leader on global human rights issues, Congressman Smith
is also Co-Chairman on the Commission for Security and
Cooperation in Europe (CSCE) and a member of the Congressional
Human Rights Caucus. |

Bill McCollum
Congressman McCollum is a member of the
Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence where he serves on
two Subcommittees. Congressman McCollum played a major
role in the policy struggle in Washington in support of the
Afghan people. Congressman McCollum dispatched his
staff often to Afghanistan and established the McCollum
humanitarian relief flights that took food and medical
supplies to the Afghan freedom fighters and refugees. On these
flights, wounded Afghans were often transported back to the
United States for medical treatment. |

Tom Lantos
Congressman Lantos is a member of the
Committee on International Relations. As one of the strongest
voices in the Congress on human rights and freedom during the
Cold War and it's aftermath, Lantos is Co-Chairman of
the Congressional Human Rights Caucus. The Soviet invasion and
occupation of Afghanistan were highlighted and challenged by
Congressman Lantos out of his concern for human rights
and genocide. Congressman Lantos currently serves as
the ranking Member of the Subcommittee on International
Operations and Human Rights. |

significant Afghan-American community in Northern Virginia

Over the past several years Congressman Tom
Davis has called for peace in Afghanistan and has played a
critical role in helping to voice and express the concerns of
many Afghan-Americans to Congress. Congressman Davis
has worked hard at ensuring that the U.S. government does not

Davis represents a key district in Northern Virginia where
many prominent Afghan-Americans reside. |

this position he has worked to provide crucial humanitarian
and other support to the Afghans during their struggle.

Congressman Dreier has been a leading,
outspoken proponent for democracy and peace for Afghanistan.
To help bring national attention to the suffering of the
Afghan people, Congressman Dreier brought wounded and
disabled Afghan refugees into his office to brief Members of
Congress and their staff. Congressman Dreier played a
key role in the fight for U.S. humanitarian and military aid
to the Afghan refugees and freedom fighters during the war
with the Red Army. |

Congressman Hunter is a member of the
Committee on National Security. He has been a staunch
supporter of the freedom fighter movements in Afghanistan and
elsewhere around the globe during the Cold War. Hunter
is a leader on U.S. defense policy and is Chairman of the
Subcommittee on Military Procurement. He represents a
significant number of Afghan-Americans that reside in the San
Diego, California, area.
