Glacier visto durante el vuelo a Villa Ohiggins
En enero (2004), fui por vacaciones a la Patagonia chilena, esperando así, estar lejos por algún tiempo de las malas noticias en los medios de comunicación. Encontré una Tierra de una belleza natural casi imposible de describir, pero también encontré a mis viejos conocidos de Hebrón, los soldados del IDF (IDF soldiers).
Fue
como si las mismas personas que ocupan mi país se hubiesen trasplantado a la Patagonia después de su orgía genocida. La segunda cosa bastante extraña que
llamó mi atención en la Patagonia es que "extranjeros" están comprando
grandes paños de tierra en Chile y en Argentina.
La controversia alrededor de muchos extranjeros que compran la tierra, es casi siempre un tema de conversación con los locales:

En una zona dónde la única industria de crecimiento es el Turismo, escuché a varios chilenos que comentaban que los extranjeros siempre parecen recibir más indulgencia del gobierno que ellos mismos.
Otros comentan la compra de
la Patagonia por extranjeros como el preludio a la fundación de un nuevo
estado. No es de extrañarse, están viendo al ejército israelita explorando
su país desde principios de 1980 e incluso antes de esa fecha.
Un chileno con un poco de conocimiento sobre estas materias nos dijo que ellos viajan en formaciones que corresponderían a misiones de "reconocimiento e inserción" en la terminología militar. Esta persona nos confirmó que la exploración de la Patagonia bajo la fachada de turismo ha sido llevada a cabo desde 1976, intensificándose posterior a 1982 aproximadamente.

Mientras la incesante incursión del IDF ha despertado la curiosidad de los chilenos, me recuerda lo que pasó en mi Patria Palestina desde finales de 1920 y principios de los años treinta, cuando masivas olas de judíos inmigraron como "granjeros".
Los judíos comenzaron comprando grandes
extensiones de tierra en Palestina a través de los hombres y compañías de
exploración. En ese momento los Palestinos poseían la mayoría de las tierras
en Palestina. Me pregunto si el futuro de la Patagonia se parecerá a la
historia de Palestina.
Antes de Balfour, uno de
los últimos actos del Imperio otomano antes de su fallecimiento fue entregar
Palestina que había ocupado durante mucho tiempo, a los británicos. Esta
charada de infamia recuerda uno vez más la de un par de mendigos que se
sientan a la entrada de una iglesia, uno de ellos vendiendo la iglesia al
otro, en lugar de actuar como honestos compañeros que hacen un trato de
buena fe.
Poco
después vino la guerra de 1948 en que los judíos declararon su independencia
y el establecimiento de un estado judío, Israel, en el 78 por ciento de la
tierra Palestina. En ese momento el Banco Oriental y Jerusalén Oriental
estaba bajo el control de Jordania, mientras que la Franja de Gaza estaba
bajo el control de Egipto.
Mi madre me contaba,
El ejército árabe (compuesto de tropas de todos los países que ahora tienen fronteras con Israel) recogió todas las armas particulares de los Palestinos en ese momento. Ellos nos convencieron que eran lo suficientemente fuertes como para protegernos y luchar contra Israel, que nosotros deberíamos confiar en ellos y debemos entregarles nuestras armas.
Los soldados árabes les dijeron a los Palestinos que deberían dejar sus casas por un par de días que hasta que la guerra acabase, "no hay ninguna necesidad de llevar sus cosas personales".
Este mismo Ejército árabe estaba dotado de sólo armas
rotas para defender Palestina. Ellos tenían sólo tapas de corcho y balas de
salva en lugar de balas reales. Ésta es la tercera traición de los Árabes
contra los Palestinos después de que los Turcos otomanos habían vendido
Palestina a los británicos anteriormente.
El fenómeno de extranjeros comprando tierras Palestinas no se detuvo después de la ocupación de la Franja Oriental y de Gaza en 1967.
De hecho, compañías extranjeras de avanzada que compran la
propiedad Palestina aumentaron en gran forma sus actividades. Algunas
personas que dejaron Palestina debido a la guerra de 1967 vendieron sus
casas en las viejas ciudades de Jerusalén y Hebrón. Después de un rato quedó
claro que estos extranjeros de avanzada servían a los intereses de la
ocupación judía y los colonos.
La conclusión es:
Las actividades de los "turistas" judíos y de los extranjeros que compran cualquier propiedad disponible es vista claramente por las personas chilenas y este asunto es cuestión de mucha controversia y discusión, pero lo que no está claro para los chilenos de la Patagonia es el futuro.
Nadie sabe con seguridad por qué el alto mando militar israelita está enviando a sus soldados en misiones de exploración a la Patagonia. El gobierno israelita está evidentemente interesado en la Patagonia y ellos están gastando el dinero que les sirva a ese interés.
Varios "Hayalim" (Hayalim:
en hebreo, el plural de "Hayal", soldado) le dijeron a mi amigo que el IDF
financia su viaje después de que ellos completan el servicio militar y las
personas con quienes él pudo hablar, todos habían tenido un rol en
inteligencia, sea este en un "trabajo de oficina" no especificado o viajando
por diferentes partes, filmando con una cámara de video los combates en el
sur del Líbano y la Franja Oriental
La guerra estallará en cualquier momento entre ambos pueblos aún cuando tengan acuerdos de paz. Muchos judíos ya han dejado Israel e incluso solicitaron pasaportes extranjeros. Muchos judíos han comprado tierras en Europa y en los Estados.
Es interesante que los casos de corrupción contra
el primer ministro Ariel Sharon involucra el intento de adquisición de una
isla griega.
Dijo que Israel no era un país seguro para los judíos y que en su opinión, las prácticas del gobierno estaban preparando a los judíos para el nuevo Holocausto, y que era importante encontrar un lugar seguro para vivir.
Ella estaba hablando con un profundo dolor, tal como si el nuevo Holocausto
estuviera pasando en ese instante. Anat me dijo que muchos judíos se sentían
de la misma manera.
Durante algún tiempo pensé que no me encontraba en la Patagonia, sino, de vuelta en las calles de Hebrón o en Israel.
Cuando la nave llegó a Chaitén en medio de la noche, había otro grupo de soldados judíos que esperaban por ellos y entonces, todos ellos, comenzaron a hablar en hebreo. Ellos me identificaron como Palestina cuando hice una llamada telefónica. Estaba hablando con mi amigo, diciéndole había un grupo de soldados israelitas caminando detrás de mí. De repente uno de ellos me gritó y preguntó donde iba a quedarme.
Recuerdo que yo le contesté "En el Infierno hecho por Israel."
Él dijo que la,
Viajando más al sur, en un barco, entre Villa O'Higgins y Candelario Mansilla, un oficial israelita estaba hablando con un grupo de turistas.
Cuando él les dijo que era de Israel, un hombre escocés contestó de una extraña manera,
El oficial dejó de hablar con los europeos rápidamente.
Cuando este israelita me preguntó si yo era judía o si podía hablar hebreo, contesté que era Palestina, pero mi amigo cortó nuestra conversación. Durante el resto del viaje, este oficial estaba visiblemente preocupado con su mochila, nunca la perdía de vista. Él no permitía a nadie que la tocara, incluso el personal del barco cuando las acomodaban.
Si alguien bajaba al lugar para buscar algo, el oficial bajaría junto a él y se aseguraría que su mochila no se tocaría o se movería de su lugar.

En la rampa de Candelario Mansilla, había dos unidades militares israelitas, una en cada lado, esperando al parecer por el oficial en la nave.
Todos le rodearon e intercambiaron información entre ellos, los tres oficiales al parecer intercambian información sobre los dispositivos portátiles que ellos llevaban consigo. Después se retirarían a un lugar privado en los bosques cercanos, dejando a los soldados de sus unidades en la rampa.
He visto a las unidades de inteligencias del IDF comportarse de la misma manera en el West Bank.

Intenté ignorar estas unidades del IDF, pero todos estábamos sentados en el
mismo lugar en espera del regreso de la nave. Uno de los IDF me reconoció
por mi película "Hebrón: la Ciudad sin Misericordia" que él había visto y él
informó a sus amigos que yo era un periodista Palestino.
Ella contestó de Palestina. Mi amigo le dijo que "eso es bullshit!" Le dije, usted es de Israel. La Hayalet (en hebreo, soldado hembra) estaba llevando un Koffir Palestino. Su novio hablaba algo de árabe.

De los soldados que sirven en los territorios ocupados, sólo los oficiales de inteligencia aprenden el árabe.
Mi amigo comprendió la manera insolente
en que ellos estaban hablando conmigo y me instó que dejara de hablar con
los IDF. Esto los hizo enfadar. La mujer empezó hablar sobre ello con mi
amigo, pero él decidió cortar el contacto debido a la postura evidentemente
agresiva de los soldados.
Él había visto mi
película "Hebrón: la Ciudad sin Misericordia". Ella se sentó a mi lado,
comenzamos a hablar. Ella me preguntó si quería volver a casa, si me sentía
bien, y se contestó a si misma. Ella dijo que yo no parecía feliz, seguro
que esto era porque no veía a mi madre…
Le pregunté si había servido en el West Bank. Ella contestó que sí.
Le pregunté qué tipo de trabajo había hecho allí. Ella contestó,

Le pregunté ¿A qué misiones les envió el IDF hacer en
Chile? Le dejé desconcertada y me fui hacia mi amigo.
Hablé sobre construir buenos caminos entre el norte y el sur y cómo las personas ricas deberían ayudar a que el gobierno haga esto… recuerdo su nerviosa respuesta cuando ella preguntó,
Ella no parecía contenta sobre lo que estaba
oyendo. Dijo que yo era una mujer de ciudad y me acusó de pensar en destruir
la naturaleza. Todo el rato ella estuvo aplastando los tábanos con sus dedos.
Nos separamos.
El dueño llamó a la policía y ellos de alguna manera fueron aprehendidos. Entre Chaitén y Candelario Mansilla hay sólo aproximadamente 60.000 habitantes en todo la Patagonia chilena, los caminos son pocos, y a pesar de las grandes distancias todos se conocen. Aquí, es muy difícil escaparse con acciones "tontas".
De crimen mayor casi no se
escucha. Me dijeron que solo dos casos fueron llevados ante la Corte de
Justicia de Cochrane (capital de la provincia) en un palmo de siete años. El
Juez supuestamente renunció de aburrimiento.
Las señales en hebreo puede verse en algunas casas y tiendas, muchos lugareños están supuestamente aprendiendo hebreo. Una pensión ha especializado sus servicios hacia los visitantes israelitas: precios bajos, cuartos limpios, el dueño nos habló en primer lugar en hebreo destartalado. En las calles pueden verse muchos israelitas, escuche hablar en hebreo un par de veces.
Me recordé de los asentamientos en el West Bank.

El pueblo chileno generalmente es muy amistoso con los extranjeros y dan la bienvenida a los visitantes de su país, a los cuales parecen mirar con interés y curiosidad.
Lo que cuenta para la gente de la Patagonia son los pequeños detalles en la conducta personal. Se recuerdan de las personas buenas durante mucho tiempo, sólo debido a eso, y lo mismo puede decirse sobre aquéllos que se comportan de malas maneras.
De mis interacciones con
la gente de la Patagonia quedó claro que ellos no saben nada sobre la
historia de lo que pasó en Palestina (pero ellos están muy conscientes de
los desarrollos presentes) y el paralelo qué parece estar desarrollándose en
su país. Fuera de una élite muy diminuta, la gente de la Patagonia parece no
estar interesados en la política más allá de sus problemas locales y cuando
hablan sobre la política, lo hacen de una manera muy cortés.
En la mayoría de las casas dónde alojé, me dijeron que ellos no aceptaban a
los IDF ("Israelitas"). Esto parece haber hecho un mercado para aquéllos que
especializaban en ellos.
Espero que ambas, las personas y la tierra, nunca conozcan la ocupación que destruye la humanidad, la belleza y la naturaleza. Espero que nunca un asentamiento se implante en este fin hermoso fin del mundo. De la misma manera, no deseo un nuevo Holocausto para mi amigo Anat y nuestra gente.
Yo espero que la paz llegue pronto a nuestro país y que la ocupación acabe.

In January (2004) I went for vacations to the Chilean Patagonia, expecting some time far away from the bad news in the media. I found a Land of a wild beauty almost impossible to describe, but I also found my old acquaintances from Hebron, the IDF soldiers.
It was as if the same people occupying my city had been transplanted to Patagonia after their genocidal rampages.
The
second rather strange thing which called my attention in Patagonia is that "foreigners"
are buying up large swaths of land in Chile and in Argentina.
The controversy around the many foreigners who buy land is almost always a conversation topic with the locals:

In a Land where the only growth industry is Tourism, I heard several Chileans commenting that foreigners always seem to receive more leniency from the government than they themselves.
Others comment the buyout of
Patagonia by foreigners as the prelude to the foundation of a new state. No
wonder, they see Israeli military exploring their country since the early
1980"s and even before.
A Chilean with some knowledge in these matters
told us that they travel in configurations which would correspond to
missions of "reconnaissance and insertion" in military terminology. This
person confirmed to us that the exploration of the Patagonia under guise of
tourism has been going on since 1976, intensifying after about 1982.
I asked myself if the future of Patagonia will look like the history of Palestine.

Before these massive Jewish immigration waves, the British Lord Balfour issued the fraudulent "Balfour Declaration" in which the dying British Empire handed over the Land of Palestine to the Zionists and "allowed" the Jews to take over the Arab lands, probably in a misguided effort to get rid of the Jews from Europe.
Before Balfour, one of the last acts of the Ottoman
Empire before its demise was to hand over Palestine, which it had occupied
for a long time, to the British. This charade of infamy reminds one more of
a couple of beggars sitting at the entrance of a church, one of them selling
the church to the other one, than of honest partners doing a deal in good
faith.
Soon after
came the war of 1948, in which the Jews declared their independence and
establishment of a Jewish state, Israel, on 78 percent of the Palestinian
land. At that time the West Bank and East Jerusalem came under the Jordanian
rule, while the Gaza Strip fell under the Egyptian rule.
My mother said,
The Arab army (composed of troops from all countries which now have borders with Israel) collected the private weapons from the Palestinians at that time. They convinced us that they were strong enough to protect us and to fight Israel, and that we should trust them and hand them over our weapons.
The Arab soldiers told the Palestinians that they should leave their homes for couple of days until the war ended,
This same Arab Army was provided only with broken weapons to defend Palestine.
They had only cork plugs and blank rounds
instead of real bullets. This is the third treachery of Arabs against Palestines after the Ottoman Turks had sold Palestine to the British before.
The Jewish immigration from all over the world to Palestine, which was called now "State of Israel", increased sharply. The phenomenon of foreigners buying some of the Palestinian lands did not stop after the occupation the West Bank and Gaza in1967.
In fact, foreign front companies buying Palestinian property sharply
increased their activities. Some people who left Palestine due to the 1967
war sold their houses in the old cities of Jerusalem and Hebron. After a
while it was clear that these foreigners were fronts serving the interests
of the Jewish occupation and the settlers.
The conclusion is:
The activities of the Jewish "tourists" and the foreigners who buy whatever available property is clearly seen by the Chilean people and these subjects are matter of much controversy and discussion, but what is not clear for the Chileans from Patagonia is the future.
Nobody knows for sure why the Israeli military headquarter is sending their soldiers on exploration missions to Patagonia.
The Israeli government is obviously interested in Patagonia and they are spending money to serve this interest.

told my friend that the IDF finances their trip after they complete military
service, and the people with whom he could speak had all had a role in
intelligence, be it doing unspecified "office work" or running around with a
video camera filming the shootings in southern Lebanon and the West Bank
The war will break down between both peoples at any time even if they have peace agreements. Lots of Jews have already left Israel and even asked for foreign Passports. Lots of Jews have bought lands in Europe and the States.
Interestingly, the cases of corruption against Prime Minister Ariel Sharon
involve the attempted acquisition of a Greek island.
She said Israel was not a safe country for Jews, that in her opinion the practices of the government were preparing the Jews for new Holocaust, and it was important to find a safe place to live.
She was talking with a deep pain,
just as if a new Holocaust was happening right then. Anat told me that lots
of Jews felt in the same way.
For a while I
thought that I was not in Patagonia, but back in the streets of Hebron or in
Israel.
They identified me as a Palestinian when I made a
phone call. I was talking with my friend, telling him there was a group of
Israeli soldiers walking behind me. Suddenly one of them shouted at me and
asked where I was going to stay. I remember I answered him "In the Hell made
by Israel".
He said,
Further to the south, on the ship between Villa O'Higgins and Candelario Mansilla, an Israeli officer was talking with a group of tourist.
When told them he was from Israel, a Scottish man replied in a strange way,
The officer promptly stopped talking with the Europeans.
When this Israeli asked me if I was a Jew or if I could speak Hebrew, I replied that I was a Palestinian, but my friend cut off our talking. During the rest of the trip, this officer was visibly preoccupied with his backpack, never leaving it out of sight. He would not let anybody touch it, not even the ships crew when stowing it away.
If somebody else went below deck to get something, the officer would go down and ensure that his own backpack would not be touched or moved from its place.

At the boat ramp at Candelario Mansilla, there were two units of Israeli military heading in the opposite direction, apparently waiting for the officer on the ship.
They all surrounded him and exchanged information between each other, the three officers apparently exchanging information on handheld devices they had with them. Later the officers would retire to a private place in the woods nearby, leaving the soldiers of their units to themselves at the ramp.
I have seen the IDF intelligence units behave in the same way in the West Bank.

I tried to ignore these IDF units, but we all were sitting in the same place waiting for the ship back.
One of the IDFs recognized me from my film "Hebron:
City without Mercy" which he had seen, and he informed his friends that I am
a Palestinian journalist.
She asked me from where you come? I said from Austria. The woman laughed loudly and asked again from where are you? From Palestine I said, and you from where are you? She answered from Palestine. My friend said "that's bullshit!" I said you are from Israel. The Hayalet (Hebrew, a female soldier) was wearing a Palestinian Koffiya. Her boyfriend spoke a bit of Arabic.

Of the soldiers who serve in the occupied territories, only the intelligence officers learn Arabic.
My friend realized the insolent way in which they
were talking to me and urged me to stop talking with the IDFs. This made
them angry. The woman started arguing about that with my friend, but he
decided to cut the contact because of the obviously aggressive posture of
the soldiers.
She started conversation telling me that one man
from her group had identified me. He had seen my film "Hebron: City without
Mercy". She sat next to me, we start talking. She asked if I would
return home, if I felt comfortable, and she answered herself. She said that
did not look happy, sure this was because "I didn't see my mother."
She answered "Stupid work, that's all they teach us to do there".
I told her some of what the IDF
soldiers, men and women, had done in the West Bank and I offered her to read
my website. I asked her what missions the IDF sent them to do in Chile? I
left her confused and I went to my friend.
She became angry and said:
I remember her nervous answer she asked,
She looked rather unhappy about what she was hearing. She said that I was a city woman and charged me with thinking of destroying the nature. All the while she was crushing the gadflies with her fingers.
We parted ways.
In all of the Chilean Patagonia, between Chaiten and
Candelario Mansilla there are only about 60.000 inhabitants, the roads are
few, and despite the large distances everybody knows everybody. It is very
difficult to get away with "stupid" deeds here. Major crime is almost
unheard of. I was told that exactly two cases were brought before the
Justice Courtin Cochrane (a province capital) in a span of seven years. The
Judge supposedly resigned out of boredom.
Despite the above incident related to me, the village receives lots of visitors from Israel and the tourism has even partly specialized in these visitors. Signs in Hebrew can be seen on some houses and stores, many villagers are supposedly learning Hebrew. One boarding house has specialized its service towards the Israeli visitors: low prices, clean rooms, the owner first spoke to us in broken Hebrew. In the street many Israelis can be seen, I heard Hebrew a couple of times.
I was remembered of the settlements in the West Bank.

The Chilean people are generally very friendly to foreigners and welcome visitors to their country, which they look at with interest and curiosity.
What counts with the Patagonians are the small details in personal conduct. Nice people are remembered for a long time just because of that, and the same can be said about those who manage to upset somebody.
From my
interactions with Patagonians it was clear that they know nothing about what
history of what happened to Palestine (but they are very well aware of the
present developments) and the parallels which seem to be developing in their
country. Outside of a tiny elite, Patagonians seem not to be interested in
politics beyond their local issues, and when they talk about politics they
do it in a very polite way.
There are lots of stories like the one with the guys sneaking
out from a window making their rounds in the region. I was asked several
times if I was from Israel before renting a room. At most lodges where I
lived I was told that they would not take the IDFs ("Israelites"). This
seems to have made a market for those who specialize in them possible.
This is my wish for Patagonia, for these nice people which I met, for this beautiful piece of art made by the nature. I hope that both people and land will never know the occupation which destroys humanity, beauty and the nature. I hope that never a settlement will be implanted into this beautiful end of the world. In the same way, I do not wish a new Holocaust for my friend Anat and our peoples.
I hope that peace will soon come to our country and that the occupation will end.
