phenomena discharges come in three levels of intensity:

beautiful and intricate structures such as the
Butterfly
Nebula, the stars-throwing-off-gas theory is REPLACED by
normal
Birkeland currents in glow mode where the
currents are necking down on a star in the typical
funnel, hourglass or butterfly shape.
The
star in the center is hardly even visible.
