This project aims to build greater consensus
among members of the Afghan Diaspora and leaders inside Afghanistan
regarding common principles of democracy and governance embodied in
a document available to all Afghans.
The Foundation is working to convene Afghan intellectuals
and leaders. An urgent need exists to network, convene, coordinate
and focus the deliberation of Afghans worldwide. It is necessary to
promulgate knowledge and understanding of traditional Afghan
political values, traditions, and institutions. To this end, a step
forward was achieved with a partial support from the National
Endowment for Democracy. We hope that the Charter will be a possible
architecture for the principles of governance by which Afghans could
be united.
The Foundation has and continues to solicit input from a
broad spectrum of Afghans in preparation for a meeting of a central
drafting committee. The Charter will be distributed and signatures
sought. The Foundation will provide opportunities for members of the
Afghan community to comment on and prioritize components of the
Charter.
